TIER2 – enhancing Trust, Integrity and Efficiency in Research through next-level Reproducibility, is an EU Horizon Europe project that aims to broaden our knowledge and understanding of reproducibility, co-create and test tools, engage and grow communities, and implement high-quality policies.
Reproducibility and Replication is important in neuroscience as it constitutes an opportunity to improve the way research is conducted and to promote scientific progress, allowing other neuroscience researchers to build on work done previously by others. As in other disciplines, many believe that we are in the midst of a credibility revolution, with factors such as questionable research practices, insufficient transparency in reporting, and publication biases exacerbating the lack of reproducibility.
During the TIER2 Reproducibility Hackathon (ReproHack), participants collectively work together, attempting to reproduce research findings that have been published previously. It is important to note that this event format is not intended to criticize or discredit any research efforts. Instead, reproduction attempts are a beneficial scientific activity with useful outcomes for the original authors and valuable learning experience for both the participants and the wider research community.
